Carlton have picked up GWS Giants midfielder Lachie Whitfield during the AFL trade period, with the deal confirmed on 13 October 2026. Five picks changed hands in the transaction.

Whitfield has been a long-serving Giant over his career and is seen as one of the competition's more dependable midfielders. He brings plenty of experience to a Carlton midfield that has been pushing for more in recent seasons.

His move to Carlton stands out as one of the more significant trades of the 2026 period. The Giants will receive the five picks in return for losing a player who served the club well at the highest level.

For Carlton, landing a midfielder of Whitfield's calibre is a real boost heading into the upcoming season. The deal shows Carlton means business as they look to contend in 2027.
