A 15-year-old boy went missing at Swanholme Lakes in late May, rescue crews carrying out searches around the water during the operation proceeded. Declan Sawyer was named as the deceased, and the area remained closed while searches continued. The area features Dragonfly, Sanctuary, and Coot Lakes, and has been a local nature reserve since 1991, where authorities stress safety and wildlife protection. Swanholme Lakes was formerly a series of gravel pits (common in this area). Work ceased in the 1960s and the land has gradually reverted to wild with some management in recent years. The gravel extraction left a number of fairly shallow lakes with very irregular shapes making for very pleasant walking. There are three major lakes: Dragonfly Lake, Sanctuary Lake and Coot Lake which has major and minor sections; there are many more unnamed lakes some of which are quite large.

Boy, 15, still missing after Swanholme Lakes emergency response in Lincoln — Mogaz

A 15-year-old boy went missing in Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln on Sunday after emergency crews were called to reports that he had got into difficulty in the water at about 14:30 BST. Lincolnshire Police said the boy had not been located by the time officers and rescuers reached the scene, despite the efforts of people at the lake and the emergency services.
