the St. George Dragons rooted in Kogarah and part of early NSWRL history. They were a foundation member of the New South Wales Rugby League competition. They achieved notable success with 21 minor premierships and 11 premierships across their history. The club produced legends such as Reg Gasnier, Norm Provan, Graeme Langlands. They moved to Illawarra in 1999 and continued as St. George Illawarra Dragons, keeping the Dragons name. Kogarah Oval hosted home games with roughly 22,000 seats.
