Stargazers can now spot the first Perseid meteors ahead of the big peak. The display peaks in middle of August next year. First glimpses will be a struggle, however. The bright moon now washes out subtle flashes. Try for darker hours near the climax. The best views come from dark sky spots off the beaten path. Clear nights could show up to 100 streaks per hour at the busiest time.
