Merseyrail is currently undergoing a network upgrade to accommodate new trains. This project involves periodic station closures and changes to the timetable to facilitate faster journeys and improved onboard amenities. As part of the initiative, platforms are being upgraded, power supplies are being improved, and longer trains with features such as sliding steps and CCTV coverage are being introduced to enhance passenger safety. A £460 million investment is funding the replacement of the fleet and associated infrastructure, with progress being made towards the goal of delivering enhanced services to passengers.
